These only seem to appear as secondary pets, but they aren't terribly rare. I saw three of them in six battles. Two were green and one was blue!

I figured out a way to find one of these! Or any rare pet, really. Go to where the pet spawns, right? Then go into the group finder and look for those apexis farming groups that are constantly running. Join one, it'll server hop you, run around looking for the pet. If it's there, catch one! If it's not, leave group, find another apexis group, join that one, and repeat!

I got a sporebat (granted, a poor one) in about fifteen minutes doing this.
