After literally YEARS of farming this pet, I finally got one.

 

I decided to try the "Kill the tainted rats" method and one spawned within two minutes on my Demon Hunter. They're hard to see, but fairly large for a battle pet, and no, they do not show up on the mini map, nor do they have the green paw over their heads. They don't even have a name tag unless you select it.

 

I spent about ten minutes trying to get a second one to spawn but no luck.
