Patch 5.3.0 | Posted: May 21, 2013
The Zandalari breed specific Direhorn species for their small size for use as mounts.
From what I've seen of this little fellow is that he hits like a truck for the H/P breed.
Finally gave up on farming one of these and went to the auction house. Someone had a lvl 1 up for 60g, and it was an H/H. :D
If you have any pet that can cast DOTs like a Unborn Val'kyr(yes, I know it is a annoying pet... if you don't have one yet:P) or Senjin Fetish you can swap to this pet and cast Shield and Stampede.
The healthiest of the Direhorns. This one comes in many breeds so be careful what you chose. H/H with 1766 health will be daunting for many opponents to take out, couple that with the superb Trihorn Shield. Otherwise you can go for 289 power or 281 speed and still have around 1500 health. Even after 5.4 nerf Direhorns are very powerful pets. Primal Cry with both damage and slow is great. Then you got a priority move and a move that can stun. Or surprise with Stampede! Great pet.
Figures, after farming bones since December, and killing more of the Direhorns and the Hatchlings than I could ever count, I break down and buy two on the AF for 100 Gold each. Farm tonight and 2 of these drop in my first 5 kills. Really? My Hubby is still laughing at me, LOL.
There were about 5 on my AH today for 250 gold each, lol! Immediately bought one ofcourse, saves me some trouble :)
And omg, he's the cutest pet I've ever seen! Definitely keeping this one out :)
Sure, this little dino is a tough fighter in battle.
But even if he was useless I would still adore him.. he is CUTE!
I love how, if I stand still too long, he will run around me in an impatient circle. "Come on, come on, there are adventures to have!"
Of all my pets this is the only one that regularly has people whispering me to comment on his cuteness.
There are few pets that I could describe as 'cute', but this little guy is one of them. Dropped while farming bones for the mount; a lot of kills but since I'm only 10% of the way towards the mount, not too bad.
for all those asking which the best breed is, i would recommend a h/s breed. this means, along with primal cry, that you will almost always be first, allowing your Horn Attack to stun the opponent against all enemies except flying pets (which you wouldn't want to use a direhorn against as all its abilities are beast)
4 of these dropped for me today, as well as a Primal Egg, and I got my Spectral Porcupette. Unfortunately, none of them were the breed I wanted, but I got the second best one. I named her Sarah, after Land Before Time :)
The Direhorn Runt is one of my favorites. I love that he will wander around in a circle if you stand still long enough.
I had 8 drop today. 2 H/H and about one of every other breed. I'm gonna keep the H/H and level and sell the rest. She can be a backup tank pet. I was farming bones for my mount, which I also completed today. I still have to get the 1k bone pet but another day.
Any thoughts on the best breed for this guy?
Husband helped me farm for this cutie the first week of 5.3. Took several nights farming for about 30 minutes to an hour each time. We would skip nights where competition was too annoying (had people who would stand too close and cause our mob to charge them and possibly pull more in the process.) If you farm as well, please be considerate of others. Can confirm its idle animation; I squealed very loudly the first time I saw it! :)
Just killed my 300th Primal Direhorn Hatchling. Have had 2 Primal Eggs drop but no pet. :(
Update: Got one on my 366th kill! Yay!
Have noticed when you mount he will walk away and look into the distance. When you dismount he runs up to you and looks at you. He hates when you mount. Aww.
I'd also like to confirm the reports that he idles by making a dusty circle around you. He's done it when I'm mounted AND dismounted, so I guess that's his official idle animation. He breaks into this behaviour sometimes even if you stand stillf or only 1 second, and it can cause him to fall behind and despawn.
Read all these post thought i'd try my luck and apparently someone loves me
landed on the islands shore target my first primal direhorn hatcling and to my surprise the first one i got my pet now to farm the dinomancers for thier pets gl beating my reccord 1:1 love all of you at Warcraftpets.com
This little one have an extra animation apart from idling, he sometimes runs off into a circle, leaving a trail of dust behind him as he does so.
So I read most of the posts about this minipet and set out to get one of my own. I brought my friend along to help me grind the adults since many people claim they drop off of them better. One adult and three hatchlings later and it dropped off of the hatchling.
Two friends and I spent about an hour on the island. We were also killing Dinomancers for the hunter book. At the end of the hour we'd gotten 3-4 Zandalari pets, the hunter book, 2 direhorn runts, and an egg. The runts both dropped from the larger, primal direhorns, as did the egg. Don't know if we got lucky, or if the drop rate isn't that bad if you are just farming the primal direhorns?
