Patch 4.1.0 | Posted: April 26, 2011
This pet is a reward for a quest found within the new Zul'Gurub quest chain in Patch 4.1. Players can pick up a breadcrumb quest in Stormwind or Orgrimmar (from the warboard) which will lead them to Stranglethorn Vale. After completing the quest chain up to Bury Me With Me Boots, players will unlock the quest to receive the cub.

It looked up at you with those huge black eyes and seemed to ask, 'Are you my mommy?'
got mine today, cute pet 3/19/2023
The chain for this pet starts with Bwemba (32 68 in Orgrimar or 26 29 in Stormwind) and heads to Northern STV. Takes less than 10mins at 120, and is quite a cool little story :)
This is probably one of my favorite pets. He is so strong against critter pets and those are almost everywhere. He also does well enough against other non-critter pets. And his ability to Devour returns him lots of health.
I have never tried to pvp with pets. But in pve, i can easily let him fight all three enemy pets and still win with his health barely scratched.
The quest chain for me started at Stormwind harbor. Look for Bwemba. She is at the docks. If you can't find her type in /target Bwemba and put a raid icon (right click her picture after targeting) on her. She will bring you to Fort Livingston. If you're having trouble with healing the people in the first quest when there log out and back in again. There's a bug where Bwemba doesn't show up. The quest chain took me 45min and was fun to do.
There are 17 different feline beasts with identical movesets. The only difference (battle wise) is the breed. For the 4 cats that have a breed choice, only the Sand Kitten and the Snow Cub cannot be mimicked by any other breed. The Cheetah Cub is the fastest with 390 speed. The most powerful is the Cornish Rex Cat with 341 power. The healthiest is the B/B Snow Cub with 1481 health. The amount of health restored from using Devour increases with power.
28/01/16. Was leveling my alt in STV, noticed i was missing this pet. After realising its lvl 85 to get quest, changed to main, in Ogrimar Bewmba gave the the spirit quest. So i headed to STV and followed the quest line as if i was completing it, i got to the guy in cave with panther cub next to him, he gave me the quest to bury him with his boots when i completed that i received my cub (how silly to have stopped so near). Complete the quest line to the end, no further rewards of interest.
Unknowingly did the quest chain that led to this little guy and well, as you can tell by my name, I love panthers. This guy toppled my last resistance to getting into battle pets. Didn't level him as a front liner at first, but in going after rares I found him useful in taking out the pets I didn't want to keep and now he is in my A team for taking down Rival petmasters. Going after more pets that have Devour.
I go to Wowhead and look at the starting quest for this pet and it says the quest is no longer avialable.

I was able to find the starting point elsewhere.
This was the beast pet I chose to start Pet Battling with. Awesome against critters and as much of the wild pets are critters he is a good choice.
You get the pet early in the chain.
You need to finish the chain to prevent STV from being phased. The last quest puts you in Booty Bay. You have to be dismounted to talk to the person Bwemba has been looking for. This is necessary to stop the phasing of STV.
UPDATE: Ok, I just discoverd you HAVE to be lvl 85 to be eligible. My other toon isn't yet. Hopefully, it will still be available when she is. She REALLY NEEDS this little baby boy.
