Patch 6.0.1 | Posted: October 14, 2014
The Lanticore Spawnling drops off a rare elite mob in the revamped, level 100 Heroic version of Upper Blackrock Spire.
The Lanticore mob can sometimes be found in the Rookery of the five-man dungeon, but is not a guaranteed spawn.
Although developer Jeremy Feasel confirmed that the pet is a 100% drop, it should be noted that drop rates are different when loot is set to Personal versus Group loot.

No one knows what deep part of Blackwing Descent the Lanticore was kept in, but it probably smelled pretty awful.
It does still drop, I just got it today.
When is the last time someone got this drop? I've got 12 toons... 10 weeks... nothing.
It does still exist. It drops only on Heroic mode. I got it after about 20 runs. The lanticore finally appeared in the instance, and the spawnling dropped on my first kill.
Comments here are seriously out of date. As of 8.35 BFA it does not exist. Having run it on my 12x 120s 4 times. The looting system is incorrect and furthermore you dont need to even kill the first boss to see if it is there, thanks to rare spawn.
Absolutely powerful pet, paired with Poda (Uncanny Luck+Feign Death) and Ghostly Whelpling (Spectral Strike+Instability), they can do really huge mess ;)))). Very good pet to have in Glass Cannons collection/teams :D.
One reason that cataclysm is not a good idea vs magic is beacuse you
cannot normally do 769 damage to a magic because it's total health is
usually less than 3 times that. 769 is usually way overkill.
The other reason that Cataclysm is not a good idea is because it only
has a 50% hit rating. Instead apply corrosion followed by sleeping gas.
Ya know, I got this and didn't even know it? I went into UBRS alone for the red santa hat. (got it first try) I was about to leave when idk I stayed to finish it for some reason. There was an obvious blaring new mob I'd never seen before! I chalked it up to me "missing" a boss the first "7" runs? Yeah... I know... but I had dailys to do and forgot all about it. So today I'm looking through my pets and I say "Where in the pits of Hell did I dig up this horrificly malformed monstrosity?!

Zeran, while techincally correct, the Instability that Untamed Hatchling has is effectively exact same ability as Cataclysm.
i finally found him last night. good thing me and my friend were doing the dungeon together, cause he was the only one to get it and gave it to me (group finder dungeon with personal loot)
The Lanticore Spawnling is a desastrous enemy against Critter- and Magic-type Opponents. it has Sleeping Gas which is good as it has a good chunk of power, Triple Snap is a pure Critter-Killer and it is the only pet besides Lil' Deathwing that has Cataclysm,A really Hardhitting luck-based ability which can two-shot the opponent. Instead of Cataclysm you can also use Corrosion to be not so rng-dependant. The last two are good Heals that synergize well with this DPS-Beast of a Pet.
The mob only has a chance to spawn and then only has a chance to drop the pet. Expect this to require a lot of trips to UBRS.
In my opinion the best looking new pet, and I think there are some good ones. I noticed it only comes with 240 speed which is a bummer for sleeping gas but still a cool looking pet with a heal.
