Patch 5.3.0 | Posted: May 21, 2013
The Unborn Val'kyr can spawn in any zone in Northrend. It is not possible to force this elusive wild pet to spawn, and there is only a small chance that the spawn can be affected by players capturing one.

Val'kyr are considered "unborn" until they vanquish a creature of high nobility.
Not bad for PVE but terrible in PVP. Much too slow.
@Evenuel Yes there are male breeds, I have an H/H male in my collection.
Northrend. Fairly plentiful around server reset.
Used to be both really rare and really good. Still useful in some occasional PVE strategies and a really neat model that goes with Forsaken avatars nicely, but somewhere between totally useless and a disadvantage in PVP.
When you use Haunt, your pet is actually considered "dead". So if the other 2 pets are dead, you lose.
In the southwestern portion of Borean Tundra after checking all around Sholazar Basin, fortuntely I was able to capture with the frost Dragon (Frosty?) from Lich King CE, the molten Welshporgy, and Etheral Soul-Trader, if memory serves~
Was flying around Storm Peaks randomly at lunch today looking for Arctic Fox Kits and found one of these on a hillside. I'd spent a few hours looking for one - just lucky today!
"Has anyone ever seen a male breed of this pet?"
It's got boobs, so I'm going to guess "no."
Has anyone ever seen a male breed of this pet? I collect both genders, but all the val'kyrs I catch are female.. (I understand it's logical, but WarcraftPets.com says there are breeds 3 and 6 (male), not only 13 and 16 ones (female)).
I am starting to wonder if warcraftpets has made a mistake here...
I was flying over Northend today doing a Children's week quest and happend to spot one of these. I didn't even realize that it was a uncommon spawn, I just grabbed it because I didn't hae one, then noticed it was on the top 5 list here. Got it as an uncommon too, just got lucky I guess. :)
I feel like this pet is so good because she is cannon fodder and you can throw her away for amp damage, I'm very interested in being full pet at some for for achieve and such. but you cant disrespect this pet. I caught her 5 years ago. lucky just by chance. She has done great things for me. I run the moon, the doom, the ascension. when she gets smacked and ready for death. ascend. rely on your 2 strongest minions.
Okay people enough with the "WTF I DONT GET IT?! WHY THIS RANKED" comments. This game is many years old and so is this site, and changes happen that aren't reflected in nearly a decade of user submitted votes. Unborn Val'kyr at one time was the most sought after catchable pet in the entire game. It was supremely OP. Blizz nerfed it into the ground and it's no longer OP. End of story. Voting it down is the only way to remove it from the top ranks.
B/B is slightly better for a Curse of Doom/Haunt combo strategy, especially when followed with a pet that can trigger the Shattered Defenses debuff (e.g. Zandalari Anklebiter using Hunting Party).Â
Most comments are many years old. This can create problems if a pet's stats or abilities change.Â
This pet is an example of that. Back when haunt cost nothing, it was really good. However, now the Val'Kyr loses 50% of its life with haunt, it is useless. Sure, it does some damage over 4 rounds but there are other pets (like darkmoon tonk, lil'ragnaros, iron starlette) that do more damage without losing 50% of their life.Â
Haunt now costs 50% of current hp to use, no note on the tool tip.
The Val'kyr is now supposed to have 1 up per zone unless it's already been caught. The respawn rate is pretty fast, possibly as quick as 5 minutes, but it will respawn in one of the other points in the same zone. There are typically 3 spawn locations, so check them all, but don't bother heading to another zone if you don't see one just wait about 5 minutes and check again. Yes, you can probably sit around and just keep catching and releasing them until you get what you're looking for stat wise or rare.
I think Blizzard may have put up the spawn rate for this. For ages I had logged in at different spawn points to get my UV with no luck. So one day I decided to go to the dungon in Zul'Drak for what I cannot honestly remember. There it was just sitting outside. I logged another toon a few days later this time in Sholazar Basin, just doing some farming and there it was again. Targeted it and my partner now has one too. We are both happy. It's a great Battler.
I found mine in Sholazar Basin. I've been wanting it for so long. I was on my DK just randomly going places to farm some ores. I noticed on my map there was a pet, so I hovered over it, and saw it was the UV. I hurried and got it. It was an unknown breed but I stoned it. Now it's rare.Â
Such a fun pet to level up, and to use in fights. I recommend it!
It's a really nice pet to use to level up others since after haunt it "dies" and make a free swap that is enough to just swap again to other pet and already garantee the EXP.
When I first started pet battling, this pet was staple in my rotations. Since she is rather slow, I prefer using the H/H variant. I do not feel B/B variant does enough dmg to warrant using it.Â
Curse of Doom and Haunt is a very effective combo and decent when dealing with teams that hit backline pets. She is beautiful and dangerous, and a great addition to your battling pet rosters.Â
Becareful!!! Haunt vs. Haunt. If you are slower, your pet dies.
Maybe everyone knows this but I just discovered it for myself. Have Val'Kyr cast haunt (dies),bring in pet with consume corpse for a free heal and val still comes back to life!
I have been off and on farming this pet since they started the battles, never even saw one, today in crystal song, ten minutes after log in, got a poor b/b, no problem, stoned her and leveled her, I am a very happy camper
